The pin and flyer seen above are Pro-Prohibition propaganda, in association with the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and the Woman's National Committee for Law Enforcement, respectively. The enactment of prohibition lead to rise in speakeasies, which sold alcohol illegally after the 18th amendment was ratified. These two artifacts were included in the gallery because they illustrate the fierce opposition to the sell of the alcohol and the unintended consequences of propagating organized crime and illegal activity, including the popular "speakeasies." These two specific organizations, Woman's Christian Temperance Union and the Woman's National Committee for Law Enforcement, also represent in the increasing power of America in the 1920's, culminating with the 19th amendment in 1920. The 1920's were a "roaring" time period, marked by final political unity (at least in terms of suffrage).
